Casio’s New Ring-Watch: The Coolest Thing Right Now

Why This Wearable is Different

I’ve never been totally sure about wearables. Smartwatches are kind of cool, but I’ve never wanted to spend a lot of money on something that just does what my phone already does. And smart rings? They seem even less useful. I like my rings to be simple and stylish. But Casio gets it, and they’ve made something really different—a digital ring-watch that looks super retro.

Introducing the CRW-001-1JR

Casio’s new CRW-001-1JR (yeah, that’s the name) is a mix of a digital watch and a ring, and it’s pretty unique. It might not be a “smart” wearable (thanks, The Verge, for pointing that out), but who cares? It’s basically a classic Casio watch, just tiny enough to wear on your finger, and that’s what makes it awesome.

Features and Specs

Let’s talk about what it does. The CRW-001-1JR has a tiny LCD screen in its 1-inch frame, with three buttons, a light, and an alarm that flashes the screen instead of making a sound. That probably won’t help if your dinner is burning, but it’s still a cool feature. It’s also waterproof, and the battery lasts about two years. When it dies, you can replace it, so this little watch will last a long time.

Why I Love It

But honestly, all that stuff is just extra. The best part is that it’s a tiny watch for your finger. There’s something so cool about having a retro-styled mini watch as a ring that I went from kind of interested to totally wanting one. I don’t usually care about flashy jewelry, but after looking at the pictures, I’ve decided that this little ring-watch is exactly what I need. In a world that’s pretty crazy, there’s something comforting about a classic Casio watch on your finger.

A Nostalgic Throwback

This reminds me of when I was a kid and wore a plastic Casio watch, just like all my friends. We all had them, and even though they were simple, we loved them. We always wanted to upgrade to a shiny metal one if we could afford it. Now, I have the chance to get a mini version that’s so cute it’s almost a bragging right—and suddenly I’m really interested in checking my bank account.

The Catch

Speaking of money, it’s not as expensive as you’d think—about $128. The catch? It’s only available in Japan right now, coming out this December. So, for now, I have to wait if I want one outside of Japan. I really hope Casio sells this little ring-watch worldwide because I’m totally ready to buy it. Don’t let me down, Casio—I need this tiny watch!

Fit and Sizing

One thing to know: Casio made the CRW-001-1JR as a single piece, so it only comes in one size (US 10.5). They do include spacers to help it fit, but they’re not the nicest looking. Since my fingers are pretty skinny, I’m not sure it’ll fit me perfectly—unless someone decides to make it a very unusual wedding ring, maybe. But even if that’s unlikely, it’s still a cute and quirky little accessory that I just can’t resist.

Final Thoughts

In the end, it’s tiny, it’s nostalgic, it’s a Casio watch—and I really want one. Even if I can’t get it yet, at least we can look at it in awe together, right?
